Private Incest

This is an uncomfortable topic for many people: mother-daughter incest. Sexual abuse perpetrated by mothers on their daughters destroys the very essence of our moral fabric. What we believe about the virtues of women and mothers are shattered.

Most people are used to male aggressors but female perpetrators of sexual abuse are virtually unheard of.

It is hard to accept that a mother will sexually abuse her own children but we know that mother-son incest is common in history from the origins of the Oedipal Complex.

Our beliefs are rooted that women are inherently different than men because of their child-bearing abilities, even when the cultures espouses strong, capable, and competent women.

Many character traits are presumed to be true about women that they are more caring, sensitive, nurturing, and maternal than men.

There is another view of women, which assumes that they (particularly mothers) are heterosexual. However, the reality is that female perpetrators of sexual abuse happen and daughters are not spared.
